Guided learning

Guided learning

My Role:

Analyzing research studies on when and where our product’s first times users struggle the most

Identifying the most optimal flow to teach user and not overwhelm him at the same time

Introducing a concept of a guided learning to the product

Collaborating with multiple designers to leverage and account for redesign of the feature guided learning flow was designed for.

Product:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing - marketing automation tool.

Project Description:

The goal of this project was to design an engaging experience for the first time user at the end of which user would accomplish a task and feel successful. In this flow we decided to introduce one of the most complex and valuable features of the product -automated campaign builder.

Tools:

Figma

Initial screen to start with

Going through previous research studies I found that our users felt lost and experienced information overload when they landed on our home page for the first time. To aid this I decided to provide one clear option to start with - guided learning tour.

Delightful moments

In collaboration with another designer we came up with this interaction to bring back normal view of the Home page if user decides to dismiss the guided tour

Feature overview

Knowing that there is a limited number of steps that user can perceive, I had to carefully choose which feature areas to highlight. To simplify the experience I decided to let user learn on a pre-made campaign and fill-in the gaps with a pre-made content. This would allow user to grasp the overall concept of a campaign builder, while still be able to make changes to the flow.

Success metrics

To make sure we can measure the impact of this feature we planned a preliminary research study to evaluate how satisfied our first time users are with our current experience within first 5 and 10 minutes of using a product. We plan to conduct a follow-up study after designs are finalized and compare results. Once feature is released we anticipate:

  1. increase in user satisfaction score

  2. increase in number of automated campaigns created by first time users within first month of using the product.
